How does wire EDM work?

Wire Cutting EDM is a machining method that uses electric sparks to make corrosion cuts on the surface of a metal workpiece.

1. Setup: The workpiece is fixed on a table with a gap between it and the electrode wire.

2. Electrode wire movement: The electrode wire is controlled by a motion device that moves back and forth over the workpiece along a predetermined contour path.

3. Cutting process: When the electrode wire comes into contact with the surface of the workpiece, a high voltage is applied to create an electric spark discharge.

4. Cooling and Flushing: After the material has been cut, dielectric fluids cool the workpiece and flush away the cutting waste, ensuring a stable process and preventing the electrode wires from sticking.
